ASHLEY WESP (Executive Director)
Ashley is from Denton, Texas and has been with BAS for 12 years. Ashley has her BS in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1994 and in 2001 she received her certificate in non-profit business management at John Hopkins University. Her professional affiliations include Society of Animal Welfare Administrators, the Texas Federation of Humane Societies (past President), and the Brazos Association of Classical Horsemanship (President). Ashley is an honorary lifetime member of FFA. Her current pets include - Bailey, Brenna, Chipper, Mouse, Dixie, Dahlia and Rodan. Ashley enjoys reading in her free time and her favorite books include Where the Red Fern Grows, The Black Stallion, and Lonesome Dove. Along with reading she loves horseback riding, biking, swimming and backpacking. What Ashley likes about BCS and BAS is "I believe that the Brazos Valley is a wonderful community in which to live and work. Being able to combine a love of animals with my work - creating a better quality of life for our animals - is special."

MELISSA JARRETT-BALL (Operations Supervisor) Melissa is from San Antonio TX and has been at BAS for 11 yrs. She recieved an Assoc. Degree of Applied Science in Animal Technology from Texas State Technical College. Her professional affiliations include Society of Animal Welfare Administrators, American Humane, and HSUS. In 2001 and 2005 she recieved the Texas Animal Control Presidential award for her animal rescue efforts during the South Texas floods and in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina. Her current pets include (dogs) Addie, Yemi, (Cats)Harry, Sammy and her conure Bogey. She loves to attend sporting events and work in her yard. Melissa's fondest memory working at BAS is" After returning from New Orleans, her postion gave her the responsibility of trying to match displaced animals sent to BAS and spending hours talking to the owners hoping thier pet matched one atr BAS. Melissa decided in Dec." all she wanted for Christmas was to get one of the dogs we still had reunited with their owne"r. On December 17, 2005 Melissa returned to New Orleans with "Daisy" an 8 year old Beagle who was reunited with her 82 year old owner. " What Melissa likes best about BAS is the commitment to provide the staff educational oppurtunities making sure BAS is at the forefront of the Animal Welfare profession.

RACHEL VINES (Humane Educator)
Rachel is from Houston/Huntsville, Texas and has been with BAS for almost 12 years. Rachel has her BS in Psychology from TAMU, she is certified as an Elementary Education teacher, and a Masters from Argosy University in Dallas. She has four cats - Faith (12 years), Mister (11 years), Grace (8 years) and Pirate (5 years). Rachel's most amusing pet story: "My cat Gracie is very smart...she figured out I kept a bag of treats in the kitchen cupboard (top one). She got them out....and then brought them to me to open the bag and give her some!"

KRYSTLE GERVAIS (Community Enhancement)
Krystle is from LaGrange, Ohio and has been with BAS since November of 2008. Krystle has her BA from Sam Houston State University. She majored in Mass Communications with an emphisis in Public Relations and a minor in Political Science. Krystle started the Relay For Life at SHSU and volunteered for the American Cancer Society for over 7 years. Krystle also has been a delegate for the Lance Armstrong Foundation since 2008. Along with her passion for animals, Krystle fights to find a cure for cancer. Krystle has three "furkids," Salem (14 years), Snickers (3 years) and Gus (7 months).

MARTHA (Accounting)
Martha is from Corning, New York and has been with the BAS for 3 years. Martha graduated college, took accounting courses at a community college and worked in accounting for the past 42 years. She was also certified by NYS for Muncipal Accounting. Martha has 5 dogs - Baby (rat terrier), Precious (japense chin), Tigger (mix), Buster (french bulldog), and Loulou (chihuahua). She also has 15 birds and 10 fish. Martha enjoys music, reading, TV, playing with the dogs and her parrot. Martha's favorite thing about BAS is "working with great people and working with the dogs. I love getting the lost a home."

NANCY (Front Desk)
Nancy is from Bryan, Texas and has been with the BAS for 3 years. Nancy has 2 dogs - Rocco (chihuahua mix), and Buttercup (terrier mix). She also has a bird named Nacho and two cats - Salvatore (persian) and Socks (manx). Nancy enjoys going antiquing, camping, cooking, fishing and just relaxing with her family. What Nancy is it that Nancy likes about the Brazos Animal Shelter? She says, "I love that I'm part of something that gives so much back to the community. And reaching out to our Spanish speaking community."

 

JENNIFER (Front Desk)
Jennifer is from Houston, Texas and has been with the BAS for one year. She has two pets, Bowser (heeler mix) and Tybalt (blue and white, domestic long hair). Jennifer moved to the Bryan/College Station area to persue her bachelors degree at Texas A&M University. She enjoys video games, reading, anime, manga and walking her dog. What Jennifer likes most about working at the BAS is "reuniting pets with their owners."

MANDY (Front Desk)
Mandy is from Bryan, Texas and has been with BAS for 3 years. She has four cats - Stormy (13 years), Cassie (12 years), Bluebelle (3 years) and Little Bit (3 years). Her favorite movie is Cinderella. Mandy loves scrapbooking, reading and photography. What Mandy likes most about BAS is "helping animals get new homes and watching the new owners excitement with their new child."
BRANTON SMITH
(Licensing)
LINDA (Full Time Care Tech)
Linda is from Ashtabula, Ohio and has been with BAS for 15 years! Her professional affiliations are TACA (since 1994), HSUS (since 1998) and ASPCA (since 2000). Linda has a German Shepherd (Kenai), American Bulldog (Tiny), Angora (Frogger) and a Persian (Tonks). In her free time she loves spending time with her house plants, yard and pets. Linda's most amusing pet story: "I adopted Frogger in 2004 and he was a sickly kitten but he bonded with our American Bulldog. Tell Tiny where's your cat? And he will find Frogger and Frogger will grab Tiny's head and Tiny will bring him to you!" Linda loves Aggie basketball and says that her favorite thing about BAS is "the entire BAS staff."
XAVIER (Senior Part Time Care Tech)
Xavier is from Bryan and has been with BAS for 3 years. He started with the shelter as an intern in the 2006 school year. Xavier is currently enrolled at Blinn College and is certified in FEMA disaster. At the BAS Staff Appreciation day, Xavier was given the Coolest Person Ever Award. His current pet is his terrier mix (Tyson). Xavier is a huge Will Smith fan and considers "Enemy of the State" one of the best. Xavier's favorite thing about BAS is "changing the lives of both animals and people."

CORY (Part Time Care Tech)

Cory previously worked for the Houston SPCA. He is persuing his education here in Bryan/College Station.

DANNY (Part Time Care Tech)
Danny is from Ft. Worth, Texas and has been working with the BAS for over a year now. Danny started at the shelter as a volunteer and the animals took to him so much, that he was hired on as a part time care tech. Danny has two dogs - Jake and Snoop Dog. He is involved in the Special Olympics. Danny loves scray movies, hanging out with friends, collecting ropes, wrestling and going to the movies. When asked what Danny liked most about working at the BAS he stated, "great friends and the animals."

LYDIA (Part Time Care Tech)
Lydia is from Spring, Texas and has been with BAS for about 3 months now. She is currently attending Blinn College. Lydia has a Aussie mix (Rufio) and a Mini Lop (Shilon). Her favorite book is Tortilla Flat and her favorite movie is Say Anything. Lydia's most amusing pet story is: "When my puppy peed all over my evil roommate's Dr. Pepper stash." Her favorite thing about BAS is "the easy going staff make working here enjoyable."
