LOST & FOUND

If you have LOST a pet:

  • Come to the Brazos Shelter as soon as you can in order to file a lost report and to look through the kennels.
    • Unless your pet is wearing a tag or has a microchip, we cannot identify any pet over the phone. BUT REMEMBER....ALL pets can lose their tags, and sometimes a microchip might not scan, so you must come to the Shelter to file a report. Also, by doing a report, we are legally able to give your information to anyone who might have found your pet.
  • All Brazos County strays are held for 72 business hours before becoming available for adoption or euthanasia, so you must come by atleast every other day to see if your pet is here.
  • If your pet comes in and we are able to obtain a microchip number, or is wearing a tag, we will do our best to track down the owner. However, unless your information has been updated everytime you moved or changed a phone number, it might not be possible for us to find you....so come to the Shelter in person to look.
If you have FOUND a pet:
  • Call the Shelter and give us a description of the pet, and we will check the Lost Book for any matching descriptions. If you do not know what the pet's description is, bring the pet to us so we can take a look at it.
  • Have the pet scanned for a microchip. All of the local vets and the Shelter have microchip scanners, and will more than happy to check a pet for a microchip.
  • If you are ableto hold on to the pet for a few days, we will put a description of the pet into our Found Pet Book.
  • If you are not able to hold the pet for a few days, bring it to the Shelter - this is where people will come to look for their beloved lost pet.
 IMPOUND

Stray animals found by the Animal Control Officers of Bryan and College Station are brought to the shelter for impoundment.  Concerned citizens may also bring in strays for the shelter.

Any person claiming their impounded pet is charged a fee plus room and board.  The owner must provide proof of current rabies vaccination by a veterinarian licensed to practice in the State of Texas.  If the animal is not currently vaccinated, a prepaid will be sold to you to be used at the vet of your choice. If you are a Brazos County resident, your impounded dog or cat must have a current Brazos County license, or one will be sold to you.

Any Brazos County animal not claimed by its owner within three days shall become property of the Shelter, and is evaluated for adoption.

ANIMAL CONTROL
Animal Control officers enforce these ordinanaces in both cities.  They are trained professionals whose purpose is to protect the animals and people of our community.  These officers are concerned with the health and safety of the animals in their custody and realize the Animal Shelter is the best place for strays.

MICROCHIPPING
There are many benefits in microchipping for pets.

-Microchips help identify your pet. If your pet is lost and ends up at an animal shelter, they will know whose pet it is.

- It is a permanent method of identification. The microchip will stay with your pet for life.

- Identification information can be easily updated. As the information is kept on a database, it is a simple matter to update your details whenever you move or your number changes.

-Pet or dog microchip cost is relatively cheap. Most places offer low-cost microchipping. When you consider that this microchip stays with your dog for life, it is a very inexpensive method of identification.

Traps: Humane traps to capture raccoons, opossums, stray cats, or stray dogs are available for rental with a deposit. Rental fees are $1 per day for small traps and $2 per day for large.
Exotic Pets: Pets such as large snakes, rabbits and ferrets are handled by the Animal Shelter and Animal Control. If you have lost or found such a creature, please call.
